HART'S SLEEPING PLACE

     In 1744 John Hart was granted a license to trade with the Indians on western Pennsylvania lands then closed to white settlers.

     Here on the Kittaning Path he established a campsite for use in his dealings with area tribes.

     The last Indian encampment of importance at Hart's Sleeping Place a number of bark huts with 20 or 30 Indians, was recorded in the Spring of 1781.

HART'S SLEEPING PLACE

During the latter part of the Eighteenth century, John Hart, an Indian trader, traveled the Kittaning path & slept here.
